Gift Guide: For All Foodies on Your List

It happens to us every year; we want to give them a thoughtful gift that's focused around a fun experience but we don’t want to add additional stress to their life. A meal kit delivery service that requires them to cook 2-3 meals per week? Forget it! Never fear, the Takeout Kit blog is here :)

Do you have someone on your list who enjoys cooking but may not always have the time? Or someone who likes to try new international flavors and techniques? We’d love to recommend some gifts that will make cooking a little more fun and enjoyable.

Here are our top picks for best gifts for foodies 2019...

Gift Ideas for the Adventurous Foodie:

Stainless Steel Masala Dabba Spice Box - $79.97

A luxury staple for anyone looking to get serious about cooking Indian cuisine at home. Customize your own spice blends; add a little of this and a little of that until you create the perfect taste. We love how the glass tops make it easy to see inside and the engraved spice names guide our Indian market shopping list. They'll be an Indian cuisine master chef in no time! A little too advanced? They can still experience Indian cuisine deliciousness with either a Butter Masala or Tikka Masala kit.

Korean Dolsot Stone Bowl (for Bibimbap or Sundubu Jjigae) - $19.90 each

If you've ever created French onion soup in a crock, you know how the right soup bowl can elevate the experience. The Korean Dolsot is no exception to the rule - it's perfect for creating sizzling bibimbaps and serving stews or soups hot and delicious. Pair a few of these with our Korean Kimchi Tofu Stew Meal Kit for the perfect Korean food lovers gift!

Takeout Kit Adventure Sampler - $86.95

Show your giftee that you "get" them by sending them this sampler. The Takeout Kit Adventure Sampler includes: Burmese Curry Noodles (Khao Soi), Ethiopian Spiced Lentils & Quick Injera Flatbread, and Sichuan Mapo Tofu. They will learn how to cook dishes that are lesser known in the U.S. but very popular in their respective countries. Cross it off your list today - DONE!

      Gift Ideas for Students/New Chefs:

Learning how to cook healthy and tasty meals for yourself can be a daunting goal, especially when you're on a budget. Luckily, there are plenty of options out there to help you...you just have to find the right ones. I was in these shoes once. I loved to EAT but I had a limited budget and didn't know how to cook. If I wanted to EAT well, I had to figure out how to COOK well. My first cooking set was a hand-me-down from my parents and that was all I needed to get started. We didn't have meal kits back then but I'm guessing that they would have been out of my budget for sure. If you're gifting to a college student or new chef on a budget, these gift ideas can legitimately launch their cooking skills and improve their everyday life (I'm serious!).

      Instant Pot 7-in-1 Multi-Use Programmable Cooker - $79.99

If you're gifting one of these, can you send one our way too? In all seriousness, this is top of our list and #1 in Amazon's Home Gift Guide for a reason. It acts as a combination rice cooker, steamer, slow cooker, and pressure cooker. There are a lot of other features included in a Vitamix-style one appliance does all format. Perfect for converting any techie into an unstoppable culinary genius.

Stainless Steel Nonstick Cookware Set - $119.99

We have been thoroughly impressed with this starter collection from Circulon. From the outside it looks like the much pricier Calphalon but boasts a low maintenance nonstick coating to make cooking super easy. The glass top is also helpful when you need to check on rice but want to avoid lifting the lid. The best part is that you can just pop them in the dishwasher and avoid having to hand wash. Our founder has been using them for 2 year and they have held up very well. You might recognize them in some of our cooking videos!

Best Gifts for Couples Who Travel

AirBnB Gift Card - Starting at $25

      AirBnB Gift Card

Treat your favorite jet-setter to a getaway stay where they can truly feel like a local. If they are into the foodie scene, recommend booking a place with a kitchen so that they can explore local markets and try their hand at some authentic cuisines (we wish there was a ClassPass for cooking classes...we found TryMyKitchen in the UK if travels take them there!). Who knows, they may even share their recipes with you as a thank you!

Takeout Kit Gift Card - Starting at $35

Takeout Kit - Global Meal Kit - Gift Card

Not to sound too self-serving, but Takeout Kit was MADE for people with busy schedules who still like to cook. Our founder created the company for busy global-minded travelers like herself. Plus, our focus on global dishes makes any subscription or individual kit perfect for the international traveler. Treat your favorite couple to a gift card they can use at their own pace. The best part is that our dinner kits don't contain any perishable ingredients, so your giftees can continue traveling to their heart's content and still come home to a delicious and easy dinner kit whenever they please. You would basically be introducing them to their new favorite way to cook. Go ahead and give yourself a pat on the back, best gift-giver ever!

If you're looking for gifts for the couple that has everything, a gift card to pick out their own food gift is a great call (go you!). Our gift cards start at $35 which covers the cost of 1 meal kit. Customize an eCard, ship now or schedule to send at a later date, and cross holiday shopping off your to-do list!

      Corporate Gifts

The best part about giving a Takeout Kit is the unique international experience and the flexibility. Your clients, employees, or colleagues will enjoy an gourmet international cooking experience complete with step-by-step instructions, the history of the dish, cooking tips, optional fresh add-ins and recommended drink pairings all for under $50. Our longer shelf life is a huge bonus during the holiday season too! Giving fresh meal kits can be both a blessing and a curse. Your recipient would be happy to receive the gift, but during the busy holiday season who knows if they will have time to cook within 3-5 days - or if they will even be home to receive their meal kit!

We recommend our holiday edition Italian Black Truffle Risotto Kit, Chicken Tikka Masala, Spanish Paella, or Moroccan Shakshuka which are some of our most popular kits and family-friendly. We would be happy to include your signed holiday cards or include a simple gift tag.
