Spaetzle, little egg pasta dumplings, have been a beloved comfort food for centuries, especially in Southern Germany. With this recipe, you will be making spaetzle "krautschupfnudel" style, popular at Oktoberfest in Southern Germany. It has a harmonious blend of sauerkraut and sausage. Of course, it wouldn't be complete without a healthy side of authentic German mustard!

  • Enjoyed the German Spatzle

    We all enjoyed this, and it was easy to prepare. I was a little concerned because I'm not really fond of sauerkraut, but I enjoyed this meal. We will probably order this again.

  • Yes Please!

    I really loved this meal. I ordered the sausage with it, which gave it a great deep flavor. The sauerkraut was yummy. The best part was the AMAZING mustard! The spaetzle was probably my least favorite thing in the meal, but I’d imagine short of making it from scratch, it’s as good as you’re going to get. Everything came together nicely.

  • Good, not great

    While we have been very happy with our Takeout Kit subscriptions the German Spaetzle fell a little short of expectations. The pasta was a bit chewy and the sausage wasn’t great. The sauerkraut was great and so was the mustard (and there was plenty extra). I may have been at fault for taking a shortcut and nut getting the Spaetzle completely dry as instructed. This kept it from browning as it should.

    Still, looking forward to our next kit!

  • This Was Enjoyed By the Entire Family

    I fixed this for supper this evening - and it was a huge hit. Everything went together so well, and all the ingredients were top notch. I will def. be ordering this one again.

    I had ordered this a month or so ago - but had held off on preparing it because of the "40 minutes" time required to prepare it. (I like to have a TakeOut Kit on hand for those nights when I really don't feel like cooking, and want to have maximum results for minimum effort.... and I hate to admit it, but some nights, 40 minutes worth of work is about 20 more minutes than I feel like committing to!) I was delighted to see that most of the 40 minutes was "hands off" time! This is one of the simplest TakeOut Kits that I've prepared. I highly recommend!

  • Loved it.

    Originally my husband picked it, but he's not big on sauerkraut. So me and my two year old ate all of it. Super delicious, definitely a nice change from the usual dinner.

  • Awesome German Meal

    My family was super excited when this kit arrived. They love most German foods. The kit was very easy to prepare. The summer sausage was some of the best I have ever had. Everyone wanted more! As a sauerkraut fan I was interested in what a true German sauerkraut would be like. It is very good although more mild than I was expecting. My family loved this meal so much that if I get it gain I think I need 2 kits to satisfy them.

  • This was a happy surprise

    I lived in Bavaria for several years and this was a real treat. Easy to prepare, but don’t pat the spätzle dry with too heavy a hand or you’ll end up with a ball of paste. Instrad of the summer sausage I used 8 Morningstar Farms link sausages and it worked very well. The happy surprise was how much my husband LOVED this meal; he normally wouldn’t even consider eating a brined vegetable and he found the mild sauerkraut very tasty.

  • Fabulous meal for 3

  • Authentic and Fun!

    This kit was so much fun to make! The spatzle was a little tricky because it was sticky but it all turned out so nicely! The meal was such a treat and so much fun to make! And I have to say that I'm not a big fan of mustard but the German mustard that came in this kit is amazing and I'm so glad I tried it! The meal was easy to cook and took me close to an hour to make. When I try new recipes, I always cook a little slower to make sure I don't miss any steps. The recipe card was super simple to follow and understand. The pictures for each step were an added bonus! It helped me feel confident that I was doing each step right. All together it was a great tasty meal that reminded me of the food I had in northern Czech Republic. I would definitely buy this again!
